Totally unusual for a french car, if it were german it would have broken down though
(amazing the amount of german cars i see broken down on the motorways, virtually no french cars
)

They are truly awful things
I've had many French cars from a Matra to my current kangoo and the quality and reliability is that bad it makes me laugh ( seriously )

If you want reliability issues then german is the way to go, they are terrible, even worse than fiat (and french cars happily make the motorways thanks
)Funnily enough talking about french reliability and me adding that german are worse, my mate had his works kangoo and an audi (no more than a couple of years old, 10 plate i think he said), pulls up next to him (it was a 2ltr tdi) and tries to burn him off at the lights (one of those where the lane goes from 2 down to 1), well.... lets say the french car carried on and the german one had its pistons all over the road when it let go
and my mate wasnt going fast (well you cant really in a kangoo
)French cars are normally mechanically good, its the electrics that use to suffer on them.
I've owned 12 french cars, only one let me down but that was because of a bodged hg job, otherwise they all ran very well

Tbh I think kangoos are quite nippy and the fuel economy is unbelievable , the only real issue I have is not having rear windows so it's not that easy to see what the latest part to drop off is

You can argue this one any way Tony, cars are built to an ever restrictive budget these days.
German cars might suck on reliability especially compared to the old days, but the figures would suggest French ones suck harder. And are rattly too. I've got another friend moaning about a gearbox on a nearly new Renault on Facebook at the moment.
Get a good one though and you'll have a good car and a bargain too they are still built with a little flair, I will not dispute that.

My other half wants a ds 3 and must admit I do like the style but I can't help thinking in the very near future the random dash lights will start flashing , telling many tales of woe

Its not just french cars, most manufacturers go down the same line, dmf's for instance, total nightmare for a lot of diesel owners no matter what marque, and rattly, new cars are not that bad, my little c3 diesel is great, no issues with her in the first 20k miles and she has covered most of the country from north to south (and a little further
) and im still trying to find the rattles, none yet
The biggest issues are the dealers and their mechanics, sorry, technicians..... if you love german cars then you will know that replacing parts on say a vw means you have to re code that part to the car.... why?!! and the mechan....(sorry), technicians are glorified oil changers because that is all they can do.
Tbh, french cars are pretty good these days, german ones have never been as good as they have been made out to be, they live off their previous reputation for being good and the french have their reputation for being bad (just dont mention fiat
), but really they are all the same.
