Hi, I am a new member.
Previously owned a 2005 WRX imprezza wagon for a couple of years. Nice looking car, and the handling was great, good steering, nice light front end, awesome 4 wheel driver/grip. However over the 2 years I replaced 3 or 4 of the shock absorbers, coupled with that the power delivery was flat till about 3000 revs then once you got to 5000revs, it seemed like the bottom fell out, no power at all. In addition to that the high running costs, felt like it was not quite worth it.
5 years on, now I am 42, insurance should be lower,and about to buy a Diesel outback as the main car, I am thinking of a WRX again about the same age 2005 but with PPP.
I am hoping this will give a different and hopefully better power delivery, possibly not worse MPG, and make the high running costs worthwhile.
Not sure if a wagon or saloon, want it to be subtle not too lary.

Dont buy a ppp car imo. Have it custom mapped. Will be far better than a ppp car

 

Unless it just so happens to have ppp, I wouldn't search for one, fuel was cheaper 5years ago. I would go for a saloon unless you need the extra space, not much difference in driving and weight between the two,

 

If you are buying a 2007-2010 diesel Outback, check out various threads in UK, Sweden, and Germany about main bearing failures; this is surprising common after 40000 miles. It was fixed on the new shape.
Wagons are a bit more stealthy, and perfect for kids, dogs and white goods etc. Possibly less demand for them so you may be able to negotiate price.
