Default Gearbox Neutral Bias Spring

I'm not sure if this is what it is called but I have 2 Type 754 gearboxes. The STI box has the selector shaft heavily sprung whilst the other doesn't, this is a DCCD box . I prefer the gearstick heavily sprung type. So my question is how do I check the spring on the gearbox which has no anti clockwise springing on the selector shaft. This is the shaft you connect the gear linkage to. Hope this makes sense.
