For the RB5, there's only one real option if you want to make it worth more when you sell it and keep the warranty. That route is the prodrive performance pack (PPP). Do a search on the bbs for the various pros and cons. Biggest downside is the price, which is around 2K.

People all have their favorite mods(usually the ones they spent their own money on).
Personally I would'nt go for superchip, but would go for a link, mapped for my personal tastes by someone like Bob Rawle. Other recomendations have found motec to be a good choice and some have run superchip with no problems.

What did I end up doing? I played safe and bought a PPP, never regretted a moment of it.

Have you done any mods to it yet? I've put a full SS exhaust and ITG panel on my RB5 and I'm now getting 258bhp and 235 lbs torque. Check out my dyno run here

Tim,

I think Andy Tang had a PPP ECU for sale. Dunno if it's been sold or not.

Spoke to Andy the other day. He is now keeping it as he can't sell it for the price he wants. If he lowered his price then I'll be in there like a shot.

Yeah, already uprated the brakes with Tarox drilled and grooved along with Green Stuff pads and a brake servo support bracket.Stainlees steel mid-section and Magnex back box. Oh and a K&N air filter.
The brakes are now up to scratch!!
Who supplies Unichip and why this over Superchip? Incidently ,scuse my ignorance but what is an ITG panel and an EBC?

If I could get hold of a 2nd hand PPP ecu then I'll go down that road but if I had the £1,400ish for the full spec Link then I would opt for that as it can be set up for how you want it.

Tim[/quote]

A full spec Link is around £600-650 - not sure what Bob charges for mapping nowadays (very strongly recommended) however the total is a long way short of £1,400...

...HOWEVER, whatever aftermarket chipping, other than warrantied PPP, you should also fit some sensible items such as boost guage, knocklink and lambdalink as these will alert you to possible engine problems before it is too late. It is this that makes the LINK option (as well as other options) a four figure cost.

That's what I ment by a full spec Link.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Recent price from BRD for link:

The cost of the recommended basic package for your car (UK98)is as follows:

PossumLink ecu MY98 £634.50
LambdaLink module £ 85.00
KnockLink module £85.00
Knock Sensor/connector £65.00
3-port boost solenoid valve £140.00

Thumbs up

Yup, Link can seem to be expensive initially but hey when you get bored with the performance and you decide to upgrade your turbo, cams, intercooler whatever, you have the facility there to remap your ECU to get the full benefit of future mods.

So, as I understand it - you wouldn't bother fitting any additional 'warning' systems if you get another chip?

My point is that the additional bits apply equally to other chips - it is just that BRD are diligent and advise the whole lot as a package to be on the 'safe side'.

My note did say that any decent chip 'package' will cost you four figures if you fit the appropriate devices.
