oil level help??

Default oil level help??

hi i did a oil change maybe 5-6 weeks changed filter like for like subaru genuine part and filled with 4.5 litres of millers. But i have just checked oil and its saying low on the dipstick already!!!!!!!! is def has no oil leaks anywhere (well its not leaving patches of oil on my drive or any where else i park it) no smells ,no warning lights,nothing !!!!!!!!! i left car to cool down before test and its parked on ecen ground . any ideas???????????? its a 2002 wrx bug

I think I'm having the same problem in my 1999, have to top it up every now and again, no leak no smells no smoke on boost

yeah but 4 litres in 5 weeks!!!!!!!!!! its going to cost me a fortune in oil over a year !!i expect the odd litre top up every 6 months but this is ridicullous.the dipstcks almost dry after 5 weeks after a oil change. WTF no leaks or signs at all of anything wrong with car

Dry dipstick after 5 weeks. That maybe a litre of oil, that's all and that maybe because the oil filter had air in it when you did the change. Don't worry just yet, top up and keep an eye on it.

Shouldn't be no leajs with a 2.0, never had to top up mine once changed.
same with my 2.1, still the same level since I topped up last a few months back.
take it to a garage mate

you would think when oil on the F on dipstick it would be 4,5 litres . Then half down dipstick 3 litres and so on wouldnt you. not 1 litre short so im reading bone dry!!!!!

Leave it overnight with the dipstick out and then try it again. I never manage to get a decent reading off the dipstick unless I do this.

I topped mine up last nite about a shot glass worth, il keep a note of when I next have to top it up,just out of interest what would the signs of oil pump failure be

Max to min on the dipstick is something like a litre. Measure again when it's cold and on level ground. Add a litre and measure again after 10 mins.

(Total/catastrophic) Oil pump failure would lead to engine failure within a few seconds if the engine is under load. Your oil pressure light gives you a warning of low oil pressure and it should go out within a couple of seconds after starting the engine. If it doesn't it would indicate a likely problem with the oil pump (and possibly the engine).

How many miles have you covered since the change and between top ups?

Some engines do burn a bit of oil. You've lost a tiny bit, nothing to worry about just yet. Top it up and just keep an eye on it.
