Radar detectors
Having just read the link about the guy done for speeding on the M40 by an unmarked police car....
Can anyone recommend a good radar detector that is:
a. legal
b. the best
c. what it detects (ie speed cameras, unmarked cars etc
d. where I can get one
e. for how much
Before you all get moral on my ***, I'm not looking to do 100mph, just somthing that will stop me from being done at 80mph. (which would be a little frustrating given in a scooby it's less than a paper clips extra weight on the go pedal FROM 70!)
I drive to London and back from the North on a weekly basis, and 70 is achievable, but hard to maintain for 4 hours!!!

Er, the V1 will *NOT* detect Truvelo, Vascar, unmarked cars, follow-checks, SPECS and will inform you that you have just been lasered/nicked so slow down and wait to be stopped!!!!
Same with other radar/laser detectors (i use the Bel 990i).
Treat such devices as extra information on your surroundings - but most definitely not a way around the law!!

NOTHING detects, VASCAR, Unmarked cars etc other than your own eyes ! none of these emit anything that can be detected !
Geodesy tells you where the GATSO, SPECS and Truvelo cameras are.
Other detectors can spot any device that emits laser and radar, and also shop doors etc ! all with varying levels of expense and accuracy, Bel 990 and Valentine 1 are supposed to be the best at this !

The Bel 550 is the succesor to the Bel 990

That's why Laser Diffusers and geodesy is the optimum for not getting you nicked. Laser diffusers are dubious, legally. But they give you time to slow down from just above the limit to below it and still warn you. 280 quid for diffuser, 380 quid for geodesy.
Don't have a diffuser, but would get one if I was 'naughty'.
A moot point as they'll soon all be illegal anyway
