Default Considering an upgrade

Morning all

My 04 impreza Wagon WRX is currently in the garage having the rear shocks looked at, When i pull away or come to a slow stop the car will knock from the rear and seems to drop ?

Looking like rear shocks. SOOOOoooo question is .... while its in the garage and if it does need rear shock should i consider replacing them with something else ?

The car is currently completely standard and i am quite happy with the ride as it is and would want it much harsher, however if i can get something that will ride along happily and then stiffen up when i put it into the bends i would be happy with that ?

Also i wouldn't mind the overall ride heigh of the car being slightly reduced as i think it sits quite high.

Any suggestions on a set of springs and new shocks / coilovers / whatever as well ?

Cheers Tom

Hi Tom

Depends on more factors I would say,do you looking for lowering yours wagon or you are happy with how it looks

Personally if you are not looking to spend lot of money,I would have look for KYB shocks with good lowering springs which can help to lower, but if you are thinking to stiffen,I would add front 22mm ARB and Rear 24mm ARB with solid droplinks, but still I would add too Roll centre/Bump steer Kit

Depends on coilovers, but with some coilovers driving will be much harsher like with shocks/springs and can spoil the driving(enjoyment)

Thanks for the reply Jura

I would like the car lowered to improve the looks yes, but nothing silly so i cant get over speed bumps without loosing my radiator. looking about online lots of the spring sets vary in how much they lower the car by from 20mm too 40mm. Can the car take 40mm lowering springs without causing any rubbing or issues on lock ?

Also if anyone has any pics of their's lowered and by how much posting them would be ace.

Improving the handling while im at it seems like a win win but i would like to keep cost down. I had a look on the KYB web site and there is alot of options eg: gas, spring etc...... where is best too look for all these parts ? and i will have a look into the ARB, drop links and the other bits you mentioned.

Cheers Tom

Hi Tom

We are run 40mm on our wagon before and driving has been OK,we are never have problems with speed bumps

Here are pictures how it looks long time ago(stickers are no longer present)

Here are pics our wagon again on coilovers, how it looks now

About the shocks where to buy,I would suggest Camskill and please have look on Excel-G or AGX(those would suggest as first)

http://www.camskill.co.uk/m10b0s0p0/...nd_Accessories

And springs would go as above Tidgy suggest Eibach(Tein S-Tech don't have best reviews over here),they're more expensive than Tein,if they're worth not sure,we are run Pi springs on our wagon before

About the ARB and Droplinks,Roll centre/Bump Steer Kit you can ask/speak over here to Ryan/Adam@Indigo GT,Chris@CDF and Alyn@AS Performance

https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...indigo-gt.html

https://www.scoobynet.com/member.php?u=76621

https://www.scoobynet.com/member.php?u=130888

Ask all of them for best prices and you will see, what will be best option and cheapest for you(you can check over here For sale section and you can contact too here breakers)

Hope this help

Jura

Jura

As the KYB shocks are standard anyway, would i have any issues if i bought just the rear shocks and put on a full set of Eibach lowering springs ?

Hi Tom

I don't think so you will have any problems when you put only rear shocks on yours and Eibach springs, have look too on Pro-R springs which think so too made by Eibach

But as I said would add Roll centre/bump steer kit on yours, just due you will be lowering the car

Afternoon All

Right got the rear KYB shocks done and that sorted the knocking / dropping down at the rear.

Also another problem i have had to endure since owning the car is a knock from the N/S/F when cornering the car on lock. It has got increasingly worse up till now. I have put the car into my local garage and they have said it is the front shock.

However ! they have said i can only get scooby geniune parts and they are £400 odd quid EACH ! and that i shouldn't change just one.

I agree that i shouldn't change just 1 and i would like to get the pair done, But now i am pissed off that if i had known this before getting the rears done i would have gone for a full suspension upgrade.

Questions now are

Can i get front shocks for less than £400 odd quid each ?

If so where ?

If not what full suspenion upgrades should i consider as i am not going to pay £1000 to put it back to standard.

£180 a corner, but worth looking for an upgrade package inc fitting, geom and springs.

no, agx are the uprated one's that have adjustability on the damping. Much better than the standard KYB's.

As far as packages go, im not sure whos down your way, clinic does all my work but a bit of a trek for you. Worth the travel IMO but you'll get about 50 different recomendations from 50 different people lol

Best bet give em a ring and get prices and options, theres lots of things you can do at the same time, roll bars, drop links, anti lift kit etc etc etc which totlay change how it handels, much to the better

I have spoken to camskill and they can do the "standard" KYB front shocks for £169 (for the pair) good price. And then they have suggested a Tein lowering spring kit for £159 inc vat.

Again sound like a good price but everything i have heard about Tein says that they are really harsh and will shake my fillings out due to them being set up on Jap road which are sprit level ?

Thoughts on springs ? Eibachs were mentioned before, there are a few kits at like £250 ? and then alot of people mention the pro drive ones but i cant find any of them online ?
