Default Wrx box on a Uk classic?

I'm pretty sure my gearbox is slowly dieing, only covered a 70,000 (had an easy life) car is a 'w' my00. I am looking for a replacement but wanting to keep costs low, i can't justify a 6 speed conversion, been on the look out for a sti gearbox local but none have turned up. I have just spotted a wrx box from a 1996 classic 6c- ty752vb3fa cheap. I know the 5th gear will be a different ratio so will need to matching diff? Would this be alright or am I wasting my time and money? Should I hold out for a uk phase 2 box or a newage wrx box?

Newer boxes are supposed to be stronger fella as you'll probably know and start with ty754. you can look the codes up on the box to see if your diff will match if not make sure you buy one with the diff with it or source a matching diff. Draper transmission jack makes it a one man job from below on axle stands. Otherwise get some big mates in to help. I fitted a standard ty752 that I got locally for £100. Fitted new diff seals, Ap clutch and rear crank seal whilst it was out and it's been in for about 9 months now with no problems.
