Default Timing belt advice

Hi there I have a 2002 blob eye and its due a cam belt. It has 109k on it. The question I have is should I replace the belt and tensioner as well as the water pump? A few kits I have seen include a water pump so was unsure if it was common to change this at the same time? Also is a standard belt ok or do I need a Gates belt?

Thanks

I would do the pump anyway while your in there, I was told recently to inspect my tensioner and pulleys before buying a full kit as its common to only need a belt change, however for the cost you could just buy the full kit and forget about about it, depends if your feeling flush I suppose.

All depends on your choice, really. If it isn't broken why replace etc etc. I changed my timing belt (I used Gates) and one pulley, rest I've left as is.

Bit of a bump on this guys, I've a 97 Turbo 2000 that the cambelt is due on. The clutch is also slipping slightly in 4th/5th gear so my plan is to lift the engine out (no ramp but do have an engine crane) and get everything done at the same time along with a plug and oil change.

Being used to Land Rovers I nearly fell over after pricing up some Japanese bits on Ebay! A Gates belt at £50 isn't too bad but if I want to change the tensioner, pulleys and water pump as well as the clutch it's going to set me back close to £400 for all the parts before I even pick up a spanner!

Has anyone got any advice on inspecting the pulleys/water pump once I've got the covers off so I can determine if they need replacing or not? The car's just a bit of a cheap toy so I can afford to have it off the road for a bit.

Also are there any guides to doing a cambelt change on my engine on the site? Had a search but it doesn't seem to be covered much!

Cheers

very unusual for the w/pump to give ay issues IME.........

as above the actual service requirement is simply for a t/belt with the pulleyts and tensioner being "inspect & replace if required"...........
