The sill can be sorted its just the outer part but those suspension components... If I sand blast them are they still too far gone to save? Diff is going and will be getting larger hubs but tie rods, trailing arms etc, what you reckon? Where's best place to get these if needed to be replaced.

 

I sure needs a wire brush and a lick of paint. Personally i would replace the ARB.

 

Nah it's all coming off anyway just don't know if its worth saving some parts or just getting replacements. All be getting sandblasted n painted and polybushed, when I get the money together. At the moment it depresses me looking at it, keep putting it off doing other stuff to the car. Defo new arb n drop links tho.

 

Don't blame you mate. Did you see the Bug on top gear last week? It took a clout and broke the arb wishbone ect. When he showed the broken parts they were near rusted out, although i thing the wishbone was subject to a re-call a while back due to rot. Lucky he was going slow, imagine that breaking at speed.

 

Yeh I saw it, was defo the right estate for the job tho. I've seen a few recently imported type r and underneath they are mint, mines Ben here since new and never garaged and its real bad. But if a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing right or whatever the expression is.

 

Brave man putting the axle stand on the sill in that condition... Look at the way the metal is folding up underneath it. I'd have thought a chassis rail and a length of wood would be safer.

 

It's pretty dicey I know but it's safe, kept a jack up to catch it if it dropped for couple nights. was making some horrible sounds when putting it on. The inner part of the sill is good, just the outer parts shot.

 

The thing you need to remember is rust is lighter than carbon fibre!

I'm in the same boat with my 98 wagon around the rear suspension components. Post some pics up mate when you've ridded it of rot worm.

 

There was a recall for certain year cars due to rusty wishbones and it affected the drivers side the most and was partially due to the drain holes being blocked.

 

You should also change those el-cheapo budget tyres while your at it.

 

Quality ditchfinders. Yeh I will be getting new wheels n tires, they have got plenty of tread but side walls are cut, arches have been cut so there is no lip at all,

Your diff is leaking oil badly too.

I have whiteline anti roll bars on my WR1 they are in the same condition been on it since the car was new I think. I will be removing them in the summer and a full blast and paint will be done. I did the same on my classic roll bars I got 2nd hand whiteline ones and just rubed them down and painted them red.

 

Looks well, makes sucha difference when there's no rust. Can't wait to see the day I've finished mine, today I made a tragic mistake of putting together my inlet manifold and all the fuel pipes and stuff after I painted them all, bolting it all down thinking I've done a good job and then realised I didn't put the turbo intake pipe in.
