I have about a 10 grand budget, I need to build a decent car for the coming season. Looking for advice on a good car to buy, no more than 7 years old, and moderately easy to find upgrades for.

If you want to play in Group N or A, you will have to start with an RA as this is the only homologated model.

Are you sure Pete?

Don't you mean that the RA is a homologation special, rather than the only one homologated?

10K is unfortunately no where near enough money to build a competitive car Unless you mean £10K for the basic road car, and then a whole load more money for the prep?

As far as which scoob to chose..

Pete is right in that the RA is probably the first choice. I think there were some RA's that didn't have the centre diff control and had ABS, obviously you should avoid these.

Have you thought about an old legacy?

Cheers

Simon

Simon...

The "differences" between certain RA's come down to whether they are STI or just WRX...

eg: WRX RA doesnt have adjustable centre diff... where as the STI RA does.

I do road events, i'm looking to move onto stages, and i must say i was most impressed with a passenger lap i had in Aero's RA at the Nurburgring recently... the shorter gear ratios just screamed <B>"RALLYCAR!!!"</B> to me, much better for my style of driving than the std ratios....they're even shorter then the custom-built set on my current car!!!

I would seriously think of buying one for this very purpose in the future.

Owain.
