you can check on dvla-som.co.uk and it tells you if it's available or when it was sold for a fair few..

 

Not unless you are the chief constable

 

You can write to the DVLA stating your reasons for wanting the information, include reg plate youre interested in and enclose £5 postal order or cheque - just had to do it myself as I'm trying to trace my previous car.

If you want to buy a plate and it is already issued, forget writing to the DVLA. We did that and they refused to divulge who the owner was. Wrote back with an open letter to the owner asking the DVLA to forward it to the registered keeper, and they refused again....

 

You can find out what car its on by doing a fake online insurance quote.

Put false name and details, add reg number...
