Default Turbo blades???

Hi Guys,

If my turbo makes an almost fluttery sound for the first couple of spool ups could this be a sign of the blades catching or being slightly damaged?

Every first couple of spools make this odd sound and then it goes completely. It's not temperature related because I have tried starting it 10 minutes after a good long run when the engine is still piping hot and it still makes the sound for the first couple of spool ups.

The performance hasn't changed, it still pulls great. I had a similar thread the other week and have since changed back from a HKS SSQV to the standard recirc but this hasn't changed the sound. The car does idle better though and it feels almost smoother?

Any advice would be greatly received. If the blades are on their way out would a refurb suffice? I'd rather no replace the turbo until I'm in a position to upgrade it and do things properly.

Thanks.

Does yours have a Cat ? Up pipe/down pipe?

My impellors were sucking up tiny bits of Cat that were doing it no favours.

Good luck.

Thanks, I'm not 100% sure what I've got exhaust wise. I've got a bucket load of history and bills so I'll find out.

It's unlikely to be the blades on their way out. Maybe the turbo thrust bearing has worn and until there is good oil pressure the blades are rubbing on the housing.

Hi, That sounds like a reasonable explanation to be fair! How can I fix this please?

If its the bearing that's worn I'd guess a new turbo, or have yours overhauled.
