hi just after some advice what version of the classic type r is best ie" cylinder heads etc.

The version 3 is well known for having the best heads, many big power builds use the V3 heads as they have the most aggressive cams.
The MAF on the earlier cars are also less fragile.
Some believe the V3/4 also have the strongest bottom ends of all the classics, some say that 400bhp is safely run. I'm not convinced on that figure but I'm just an enthusiast not a well known tuner.

Slightly better port and combustion chamber design on the Sti 5/6 heads, more interesting cams on the Sti 3

 

I thought the version 5/6 heads were the choice for 2.3 builds...
