Default Well, after 7 Imprezas it was time.............

To try the dark side....Picked this up today....

An Evo 5!

Imported into the UK by Mitsubishi UK brandnew in 1998, the car has only covered 29K from new. At 19k the first owner fitted a boost controller, his messing popped the engine. A 1000mile old Evo 6 engine was sourced and fitted...............This engine has only covered 10k and it shows!

Apart from some stone chips to the front the car is mint....and i mean mint! Never been smoked in, the boot carpet looks like nothing has touched it.....The car is so tight it honestly feels brandnew, its a credit to its former owners.

The only downside to this car is the interior....The first owner had the seats and door cards re-trimmed in grey and yellow leather at a cost of £1800!! TBH i was sold on the condition of the car and could see past the interior.....Im really not sure what to do with the interior yet. ill have to think on it..

lol....I was the same Kas, everytime i sold a scoob i fancied an evo but always bought another scoob, i nearly passed this evo up for a P1 but just had to scratch the evo itch!

The car is basically standard apart from a full decat HKS exhaust and a remap, its been dyno'd at 335 on super unleaded.

I love the power delivery, its almost instant, no lag and feels as quick as my old 400bhp bug.....Im buzzing with it, i really cant stress how clean this car is.....After that classic i got tucked up on i think ive got a result...

my 6 drove very similar to a newage sti but prefer the 6 speed box in the sti and the engine rumble.

You need shades to look at the interior.... Would look great in a yellow evo, i just dont think it suits silver.

Now you got me thinking. I am looking for another car & I am spoilt for choice, however everytime i think about buying a Evo the good old Subaru pops up behid my head!

On top of that i have seen nothing but AYC, transfer boxes & gearboxes breaking!

I love the Evo 9 & I was looking at a big spec E6 aswell. Passenger ride me

Looks really clean, I do like the evos i have to admit, but you can't beat the unmistakable sound of the Scooby . My mate had an fq360, it was sooo! quick!! but such a hard ride, but nice motors.

Enjoy it, but you will be back ......

I guess it's remapped if it feels as fast as a 400bhp Sti? I've always found the evos feel slower with similar power as they're so smooth.

Be worth checking your stock dump valve, every one I've had with the plastic valve has leaked off boost on wot. I used to reverse them so they're pushed closed on boost and it'd cheer them up no end. I bought a 5 once the guy loved, I told him it was slow.. When I reversed the dump valve it held boost and missfired. The plugs were buggered but it hadn't shown up before with the lack of boost. It was like a different car after that and new plugs.

The worst thing about evos these days is rust. They rot terribly under the back end. There won't be many about in a few years.

same here i felt my 350hp evo was slower than my standard sti. better built cars than scoobies but somehow they did manage to make an uglier interior for the evo`s

Yes its been remapped that was when the engine was fitted by Power Engineering.

There is no rust in this car James, waxoiled from new and according to the guy i got it from and the owner before him it has been garaged all its life....By the condition of the car i can quite believe it.

A very nice example, I've always liked Evo's I nearly changed my mind and when I was picking up my first Impreza (Hawkeye WRX) the dealer had just got an Evo 8 on the forecourt.

It was only down to a very close call that I went for the Impreza plus the Evo was custard yellow.

As much as I don't like saying it with an Evo they are not as common as an Impreza, seem to hold their money better and are easier to get big BHP gains from without the massive spend that seems to be the Impreza way.

A nice buy but do something about the seats.

Nice purchase! It does look very mint! Do like these things - especially the stronger low end pull as compared to typical uk scoobs. Enjoy! But as above, please do something about the interior.

......The interior is the reason the car never sold until i turned up. Looking at the for sale photos i to was really put off by the interior. After speaking to the guy about the cars history and condition i had to have a look at it knowing an interior change is no big deal.

Shame really, the workmanship of the re-trim is pure quality! I can see why he chose yellow, the "V" is in yellow and so is the pin stripe down the side of the car.

It would look fine in a Yellow E5.

Car looks great. Let's have a piccie of the interior, there may be a simple trimming solution to the colour issue.

Default Evo

I had a Evo with a replacement engine. Never had something so quick. The thing pulled and pulled. Way quicker in the real world than the equivilant Scoob.

Saying that, Clarkson and the gang always said an Evo out of the box was really STI and above territory.

Oh yeah. AYC went wrong. Common fix is to put the RA equivilant normal diff in at £1500. Amongst loads of other stuff, however I think it was a dog really and no reflection on the brand.
