Default Hawkeye Spec D

Hi all

As I've got a lot of time on my hands thanks to a broken ankle and leg I thought I would start a project thread for my Spec D.

Bought the car in June 2010 and done a reasonable amount to it

First thing was new brakes

Then a new H&S Exhaust ( no pics of de-res centre )

Winter wheels and tyres

Wash, clay bar and polish and ready for use

Used the car for a while then wanted more, so added a few bits ;

H&S 2nd De-cat wrapped

HRC 255 fuel pump

Followed by a remap with RaceDynamix

Added a Mishimoto rad and redid cambelt

nice RCM belt guide

Headlight covers

Modified intercooler water spray system, more efficient jets and variable timer

Used the car for a while, including a nice holiday in Wales

The car developed a noisy clutch release arm and bearing whilst in Wales, so opted for a new clutch

AP Racing Organic

and new clutch fork

Sadly old downpipe was found to be cracked whilst clutch work being done, so got a nice new H&S sportscat

and gasket/fitting kit

This obviously requires some map changes, having seen how easy the remapping was done and having worked in OEM engine calibration for 14yrs I bought myself the tactrix cable, wideband AFR and made some det cans.

Then I broke my ankle and leg on 4th Jan 2012, so car has sat in the garage since then hopefully be back driving in May.

Dan.

Yeah Spec D's are great arnt they, never seen another one on the road.

Intercooler spray is just 4 mister nozzles, you can see them in the pic. These produce a finer, more atomised mist. Gives a better wetting ability. Ive kept the original water spray button but also added a timer controlled from the steering column cowling. This runs the water spray anything from permamently on to once every 60s. Easier than pressing the button when driving hard.

Not fully tested it as only just got some thermocouples and reader before I broke my ankle.

Will get some data when I am better and I'm happy to give more details if required.

Only done 50 miles on the AP but so far so good. Very slight judder when going into reverse but its not even bedded in yet. Read so many mixed views on Exedy that had to go for the AP in the end, bit pricy though. Will update once I've had a chance to put some miles on it.

Mudflaps are Prodrive items, already on the car when I got it. Don't think they are available anymore.

An update.

Late April I was able to start driving again after having some screws removed from my ankle. Could now start mapping my new H&S Sportscat downpipe.

First job was to install a PTP turbo blanket, Heatshield Armor downpipe blanket and modify the std turbo heatshield to fit the new downpipe.

Intercooler removed

PTP Turbo blanket fitted

Heatshield Armour

Standard heatshield cut to fit and painted black

All fitted

Nice stealth install

Now time to get mapping

Install AEM wideband with a home made vacuum windscreen mount

Wideband sensor in exhaust pipe

Tactrix Openport 2.0

Inside the car, AEM wideband, detcans ( in footwell ) and netbook running ECUflash

Here is a boost response graph for 4th gear WOT. 1bar boost at ~2800rpm which I am quite pleased with. Not sure if I should be expecting more so if anyone has any data please share. Max boost capped to ~1.3bar for reliability reasons. Car drives really well now, spent a lot of time on part load mapping and temperature corrections so its det free in the recent hot weather.

I used this timer HERE

It is wired into the back of the dashboard switch and when active it is effectively pressing the button every x seconds. The system is turned on by a switch on the steering column and the pause time controlled by a variable pot also on the steering column. It will run a pause time that varies from 0s to about 60s.
