First stage upgrades WRX 2001
Had this car almost from new, it's an insurance replacement for the new one that was carjacked from me at knifepoint in France in 2003. Only done 65000 miles and would like to apply a budget of £1500 in performance and roadholding upgrades [Surrey/M25 based]. Your ideas please?
Sorry if this is a too regularly repeated question but I'm not a frequent reader and have searched for previous answers. Best tip I found was from the guy who faces a £3000 rebuild because he forgot to put oil in! And he admitted it! [Tip: engines need oil].

I would start with a green panel air filter, upgrade standard exhaust system includung up-pipe and down pipe, then remap. If you can afford it i would recommend getting a bigger sti intercooler, pink injectors and bigger turbo like a vf34/35, td05 16/18g , a 3 port boost valve etc. But these would probably not come into your budget of £1500.
Just with the remap and exhaust and filter you will see a big difference over the standard car, but i would recommend getting as manu upgraded parts first and then do one remap as it will save you money in the long run. In relation to the suspension, you could just upgrade the springs and get it sitting a bit lower and then maybe upgrade to coilovers etc at a later date.
Hope this helps, I am in the process of upgrading my 2001 wrx at the moment.

with £1500 to spend you should get about 50+ BHP more, more torque and at lower down revs, and still have a bit for some handling mods, 2nd hand sti would be good, just make sure the rears are ok.
Good look.
