is it too old now?
hi all, been out of an impreza for a while now 
one not far from me is for sale and looks quite tidy but its an L reg (1994?)
its silver and says its an import wrx but it has not got colour coded door handles? is this right? its got the rear wash wipe so that ties in!
on the write up in the window it says its just had a new headgasket fitted/new clutch/pads and discs all round/new oils and seals
only thing if its just had the headgasket done was thinking the bottom end might not last long if not refreshed (no mention of rebuild so have to say its origenal engine)
new m.o.t and its taxed.
last week it was up for £1550 NOW reduced to £1050!!
what do you guys reckon?

The very early WRX classics didnt have colour coded handles.
I personally would not change the headgasket without doing the bottom end, but at the end of the day even if it last 6 months - for £1k you've done ok!

H/G on an old wrx is not something they are known for so i'd like to know the cause of the failure as there could be some ring/ piston damage if it's been run hot let alone bearing damage due to water and possibly fuel in the oil, dependant on how log and hard it was run before it was discovered.
And dare i say it, sounds to me like a cheap repair and get rid as soon as possible.
One thing to bare in mind is there are plenty of decent scooby's out there for not much more money at the moment, but this one could get costly.
I could be wrong of course, question is can you afford to throw a grand away because if it does let go in a month it's not worth fixing.
Personally i'd walk away, but what do i care it's not my money.

Matty's advice is sound. Offer silly money for it and try read the sellers initial response. If he seems keen for a deal be prepared for any bills etc. What would it primarily be used for? Everyday car, track toy etc? Would you have any plans to throw money at it regardless?
