Default astra van bat prob

my mates astra 1.7 cdti 02 plate van battery went dead last night. rac came this morning said its your alternator i popped over changed it jumped off my van left leads on for 10 mins took them off revs went straight to 1100 rpm which he said it did last night when it went dead. any ideas oh and the digi clock doesn t even go up just thought il tell u guys all info lol any help be great cheers rob

Er, rac are ****ing useless! Sorry let's not be derogatory so are the aa and green flag! Get it started put a voltmeter across the battery? What you got?

A reasonablly charged battery wouldn't of discharged overnight, unless you have a significant current drain.

Charge then drop test the battery..

What "make" of alternator did you use...??

Cheap recon ones tend not to work at all,as im pretty sure the CDti has a smart charge system..

You need to check the replacement alternator os charging

put new bat on its now fine but same thing idle at 1100 but if my leads on my van it idle normal about 800?
