I was marshalling at Knockhill today and twice when reversing
from stationery, on a gravely/muddy incline, I felt the clutch slipping.
It is OK reversing on the flat and there seems to be no slip pulling away in 1st gear even on an incline and there seems be no slip during normal driving in the other gears.
In my experience with previous cars, if the clutch was
fubar it slipped in the other gears as well.

Would I be correct in assuming the following?

a) the clutch is on it's way out ( has done 80k miles) and
should be replaced now.

b) will cost between £600 & £700 to replace at a main dealer.

Guess I can't grumble to much 80 thousand miles out of clutch
is not that bad. One of colleagues just had to replace a clutch
on a 99 Mondeo with 30k miles at a cost of over £300.00
