Unless its not a Turbo forester, in which case the TCM and ECU are one unit.

If its a Turbo then...........
As per the manuals posted in your previous thread on the subject, it should be located near the steering column.....

The relevant page here.....

Have checked the 97 Impreza info and all bar the Turbo are integrated units. The turbo TCM is located next to the steering column..........

This is typical problem of converting Impreza/Forester(or all subaru's) to manual.TCU is connected to ABS,Cruise control etc.

Second options is found Manual ABS unit and replace yours Automatic ABS with Manual ABS,this i've done

And here is master swap list from automatic to manual with parts list

Have done about 40 miles around here and there up and down the box brakes seem fine and goes like snot, love the feel of controlling the gears better than waiting. Just feels wired as i drove the forester for 6 month with a auto box in , only stalled 2ice coming up to junctions.
Looks like am all done then just the abs doo dar thing need but at the mo me thinks the plug i have in thats removing the abs light also have no engine fault light on, shall see how it goes thanks for your help.
