Default Impreza Key cutting.

Hey,

I have a 99 AWD and need to get a replacement key cut. Problem is the key has the immobilisers transponder built in.
Just rang Subaru and they want £90+ for the key, cutting and re-coding to the immobiliser unit.

Is there any other dealer or way to get the key cut and 3rd party sync'd to the immobiliser.

Thanks.

(I'm sure this has been asked before but is buried on top of other treads.)

Steve where did you get the key from? I guess you have to get the correct code of key?

Also what car? Is it a classic?

£50 better than £95.

Did you have to know the code? I'm not too sure what mine is.

Or you can buy a key from Subaru NOT coded, remove the chip from your old one and put it into the new?

Might be even cheaper?

Anyone know how much Timpsons charge for the recode? Already have the key and a blank chip.

Depend how friendly they are. Some will do for the price of the cut. Although, depending where you got your "blank" transponder chip from, they might noit be able to do it at all.
I've never come across a key cutters that could code my transponder, only tried about 5 places. Thats mostly because they are all standard chips. they will use their own no prob's, but, as mentioned, it'll be 50 quid for the privilege.

Mine are original blanks that fit the original key, believe it or not from Poland. Cost £1.25 each including delivery. Got two cos if one was dead I couldnt care less at that price LOL

Its unlikely a key cutters could do it then. Their machines can only read the standard transponder, not write to them. Probably best to go to subaru now. You've got the key and chip, thats the expensive side sorted.

Why read the transponder if you can't write?

Because when they copy an original key, it has to be read. that data is written to their new chip.

Oh, so they can only write to their chips, not originals?
