Does anyone service their Impreza themselves rather than paying the dealers £500+ a year?

I heard stories a while ago that things like spark plugs were a pain to replace due to the lack of room down the side of the engine, but has anyone any tips or horror stories of doing things themselves?

Hi

With a bit of care you can replace items
such as the air and fuel filters.

The plugs on the other hand are best to be left for the workshop and in any case they
only need replacement at around 60000 miles
or four years .

I'd reccomend doing the plugs yourself if you have a bit of knowledge and a 1/2 decent socket set, its about an hours job and saves a bomb (easier with an induction kit fitted as access is simplified).
I was worried about people saying how hard it is, but one you try it for yourself its a breeze, remember even subaru mechanics use tools and I'm sure they cant work miracles.
good luck

I've always serviced my own cars but I've been a mechanic since I was sixteen!!

I haven't done an Impreza yet but I have done a Legacy. Most stuff isn't that different from any other car but the plugs are a bit of a nightmare, you might have sore knuckles and less blood than you started with by the time you've finished!

One thing to consider is your warranty, it will most likely need a dealer stamp.
