Help wanted!!!

Car has been fine up until now clutch wise, everything else pita wise and a money pit, moved it Saturday, went out today, went into reverse, pressure on pedal, crunching as tried to do it, tried to put it in first, wouldn't go into first, turned engine off and back on pumped pedal, still no joy, turned off then started it in gear, jumped forward, turned off then back on, clutch now works fine, what is going on???
