Question

I had my first ever driving offence in 10 years of driving 3 years ago. The date to be exact was 17/04/98. I received 3 pts for an SP50 offence (speeding on mway).

I believed these would drop off my license after 5 years but have read here recently that it is 3 years.

Can anyone confirm this (Rum, Stuart H) and if it is correct does that mean they will go as of next month? How do I physically get them off the license - do I need to send it to the DVLA? I need to insure my new car when I buy it in the next 8 days. Is it worth not telling them about the points for the sake of 3 weeks?

Cheers
DW

Red face

the points are valid for 3 years under the tot up scheme. After 3 years they dont count towards a ban.

They stay on your licence for 4 years after which time you can ask for them to be removed.

Never, ever tell the insurance company anything but the full truth. If you decide to tell them a little white lie, they will find out and you will lose any cover, you will also be screwed over by the police for breaking the law, quite rightly so too!

It aint worth the risk.

As far as I am aware points stay valid on your licence for 3 years after conviction, but they stay on your licence for 4 years from the DATE of the offence.

All points will stay on your license for 4 years, after which time you can send your license away to have the points removed, see
