This is my 2nd post on Scoobynet, I'll just introduce myself

My name is Chris I'm 32 live in Falmouth Cornwall, I've got a 2001 bugeye wrx wagon which is standard. I've had it for 2 years now and I love it. It's perfect for me as I'm a drummer so I need the room to fit my kit in but can get to the gig quick and in style

My question is, i've read lots of stuff about having different sized tyres fitted and wanted your opinions.

I know Subaru recommend a rolling circumference difference of no more than 1/4 inch and I know that lots of people recommend fitting 4 new tyres everytime. But I am a poor student at the moment and have fitted just two new fronts. The last set wore down quickly because the tracking was out and I didn't sort it when they were fitted (you learn from your mistakes).

So I've fitted the same as the rears falken FK452's, basically the difference in tread depth is the fronts measure about 7.5mm and the rears 5mm.

Do you think this could damage my centre differential? I've fitted the tyres and now I'm worrying about it.

No dont worry at all, If fronts were 2mm and rears 7mm or other way round its not ideal but that kinda of scare mongering is what dealers do to make you buy 4 tyres. I used to work for a large tyre supplier and they gave same advice as dealers but it was mostly a con. Ideally you want them fairly close but 7 and 5 mm is fine

We assume you fitted the same SIZE tyres?

I've always change the front before the backs,and as long as the front two Tyres are the same brand there's no issues in my experience.I always try to keep all the Tyres the same brand but if the backs are different from the front it's fine.As said above the only time you make have issues is that all the Tyres are different brands.
