AE802 AE801 Map differences

Probably been done a million times but I've been away and search is u/s.
I recently bought an AE801 ECU and swapped it for the AE802 in my MY00 turbo. The difference in performance is really quite surprising. Could somebody of a technical ilk please tell what the differences are between the maps on these two ECUs please? There must be some reasoning behind the move to the lower performing, newer 802 ECU in late 99/2000....
