Default Bonnet Scoop

Thinking of changing the bonnet scoop on my 96 sti to the larger sti 8 style. My question is will it make any difference to performance due to increased air flow ? Thanks.

Dont they look terrible on the classic and if you dont fit the undertray to suit the bigger scoop then you might end up not getting as much air through the intercooler.

Do it, they look great and they let more air into the intercooler, the standard weedy scoops are kjnown to sit below the airflow at speed and therefore dont give the ram air effect they are supposed to give. You can see the leading edge of the STi8 scoop moving when traveling at speed.

You also dont need any other undertray, the scoop replaces the original scoop and uses the standard undertray.

I do think they look better as the standard one is too small, just wondered if i would notice any performance gain.

I have a Sti 8 scoop and intercooler fitted and my type r which is very good i have the water spray setup aswell.
I am going to change it for a front mount cooler for more power soon then loose the version 8 scoop for a reversed one to expel hot air out of engine bay.

Here is a link to front pic of it i hope:

In all fairness if you still have the original 96 sti intercooler then a sti 8 scoop is not going to do a great deal as you still have the slanty type intercooler which will not direct any more air into the intercooler , in fact it will send more air around your intercooler than in it. Personally if your seriously thinking about the sti8 scoop then you might as well fit a intercooler of a newage model to gain maximum benefits imho .

It is also down to personal preference i dont like the big scoops on a classic ,but they look awesome on a newage sti ,I opted for a zerosports splitter which directed more air to the whole of the intercooler and also gained me 6 bhp .

Will a newage intercooler fit then ? They seem to sit differently in the engine bay , straight as opposed to mine at an angle ?

It will definetley fit on the later classic as quite a few have done so previously, and there is a guide on how/what is needed to do it on this site . I would imagine it could be done on the earlier cars the only thing i think may be a slight problem may be the intercooler /bulkhead clearance.
