Default loose 6 speed gearbox and 4th gear problem

hey folks just checking to see if anyone has the same thing with there 6 speed

basically when im in gear (all gears) i can wiggle it from side to side not just a tiny bit

but a good 3/4 inch each way

is there any problem with my gearbox

next one when im giving it some beans (track day) when i change from 3rd to 4th i get a weird click and clunk (its not hard to go into gear)

just wondering what the problem could be

cheers

Worn shifter mechanism/bushes, and a failing sychro, early boxes were known for this.

whats the best course of action without having a full rebuild

maybe a new short shift (GFB Short Shifter)

and bushes

Its probably the bushes in the gear linkage. A whole linkage & stick will set you back £270 but you might be able to shim the universal joint if that is worn.

If it is popping out of gear or crunching, then you've got a problem on your hands, but 6 speed boxes can take some serious abuse without shitting themselves.

GFB is about £170 IIRC

Synchros are a problem, mine was sixth gear, all changed on the blobeyes.
