Default How to ID fitted clutch type?

Hi
My EJ18 (TY752VWAAA, non-turbo, 1.8 litre, 1994) is probably fitted with push clutch from what I've read.

But can I check whether push or pull from external inspection somehow? Bellhousing maybe?

Want to make sure I get a replacement trans which will fit!

Thanks

From what I can make out all non turbo Impreza's use a push type clutch, Also from what I have read it looks like you have a cable operated clutch and not a hydraulic type, Only way to see if the 2 are compatible is to have the 2 side by side to see if you can convert the Turbo box to cable/push clutch? Somebody else may have done something similar and know your answer though so good luck

Thanks, I think push clutch too. Hey I'm not actually converting anything ... all I want is a similar replacement box. (Nothing to do with turbo) Problem is that I can't get replacement box with exact code, so trying to find something else which'll work. Cheers

What I mean is although the turbo and non turbo boxes operate differently you might be able to convert one to work with the other, i.e. turbo gearbox working on your non turbo car

Nope, it'll be way too complicated to swap to a turbo box. Go for a like for like n/t box. EXACTLY the same serial number. The box you have is unique to that model of car.

yes although from above, usually if its pull type the lever for the clutch release bearing when clutch pressed operates towards the engine and for push type it moves away from engine as the pivot point is inside the bell housing. lol and that was a simple way of putting it.
