Default 6 speed clutch fitting ?

wondered is it possible to fit a 6 speed clutch at home in the garage ? anybody done it ? would you be able to get the car high enough on stands or would you need to take it to a garage and get it on a lift ? ad be able to make a support for the gearbox to fit a trolley jack just wondering about the height

yeah its easy enough to do at home mate, best with 2 people tho, 6 speeds are feckin heavy ! if you haven't had a scoob gearbox off before its pretty straight forward just don't forget to remove the pin that holds the clutch fork in. If you need any other help or advice just post back.

You'll need a a good foot to 18 inches for the bell to clear the underneath of the car. If you're handy with spanners then I would hire a crane and pull the engine. First time going step-by-step it should take less than 3hrs to pull the block. I had major problems seperating my engine for the gearbox, the two had welded together. After I pulled them apart there where bits of the engine metal still attached to the gearbox bell! I wouldn't fancy trying to seperate them while supporting the gearbox.

If you get the car up on stands the box will balance on a trolley jack you only need to pull the box back and work in the gap. No need to take it right out. I would agree removing the gearbox is far easier than taking engine out. The last one we did on a rally event took about 40 mins.

Bigarf did mine in his workshop, he swears it would be quicker & easier to pull the engine out.
