Unhappy

5-10 times I go to get 1st the box doesn't allow me to and its a real struggle, when going from 5th to 4th it also crunches. Ive had the gb oil changed which didn't make much of a difference, could it be that the clutch needs bleeding? or definetly gearbox related?

Cheers

Harj..

If it's the 22B, then it will be the synchro rings that have gone

I've heard of quite a few with this problem. Unfortunately it's a gearbox out and strip down job to ge them replaced. Apparently Prodrive sell "better" ones which are hand "finished/matched" to give better reliability etc for the rally cars (group N).

Johnny

Sorry mate can't answer that one as it was a free warranty fix.

I was told that it was a gear box removal and strip/rebuild - that can't be cheap!

Just had my gearbox repaired by Town End Garage , they charge £400 +vat . I took the box out myself and will be putting it back in , total charge including shipping there and back about £580 inc vat . If you intend for someone else to remove and replace the box you would be looking at somewhere in the region of £700-800

I had the synchro's replaced on my last turbo to cure a crunch from 2nd to 3rd. A gearbox oil change didn't work as a cure either. The dealer that fixed it said he couldn't see anything wrong but a new one did the trick.

Pity it left me with a final drive whine afterwards....

I did remember hearing that cars with water spray on the i/c had excessive water, washing the lube from the gear box linkage, which caused selection problems - worth a look.
