Question scoobyclinic or???

Unfortunately i'm in need of an engine rebuild after playing with my sti a bit too hard. I imported the V5 (MY99) impreza sti type R this year as a straight un-modified clean car. I've run it for a couple of months but as a result of a heavy right foot have managed to blow the bottom end. I managed to idle it home but when running the engine, i have now developed a knocking sound. I live in West Yorkshire and was wondering of REPUTABLE garages to within reasonable travel? ScoobyClinic was first to mind, does anyone have any worthy suggestions please?
I read somewhere of API and spotted some pricing too. £1700 seems to ring true?!
If anyone out there can help it'd be much appreciated.
Cheers

I would only take my car to scoobyclinic for this, funnily enough they have my car at the minute.

Im sure he cud xplain it better. Not hatin just sayin what i know.

Hi mate.
Sorry to hear of your troubles but perhaps to be expected if you imported the car and didnt have a re map, then gave it full beans on a regular basis, the jap ones dont like lower grade petrol .

I can definately recommend API they sorted my engine and its sweet as a nut!
They came and collected it too (the whole car).
My bill was just over the £1700 BUT i didnt have a new crank so i'd expect yours may be a little higher ??

HTH
Andy

It's your car and your money so you have to take it to somewhere you feel happy with and trust, that's why I always use Howard at HDC Subaru and when it comes to engines he's one of the best, certain very well known tuners have been known to send engines to him to do and I've been using him for years

IMHO I think you should at least give him a call and discuss your options, www.hdcsubaru.com

Good luck whatever you decide.

These are very strong allegations which we take very seriously!

We got your geom wrong? :

We geom cars every day including our race cars with full lazer geom gear and have never ever had a compliant ref our set ups. If you felt it was wrong surely you would have popped it back to us or let us know?

If it was wrong it would have most probably taken two tyres out not just one.

"N my mates rebuilt engine set on fire after leaving their garage due to a fault with the build which they admitted to."

We have never EVER had an engine fire after a rebuild would you care to elaborate?

my mate steves gearbox packed up after havin a new clutch their.aftr closer inspection he found a bearing in the case where theyd pulled the selector rod out or somethin to that effect.

We don't touch anything regarding the gearbox selectors or internals when we replace a clutch, we simply remove box leaving it on a gearbox stand, fit the new clutch then refit gearbox and road test.

Again we know nothing about this? would "your mate" not have contacted us if there was an issue?

I'm sorry if we gave you that impression, we are inundated with calls reference our turbo's and spend lots of time helping customers choose the right unit. we have created a thread on Scoobynet to help customers with all the information they would ever need.
Please do not feel that being directed to the website is fobbing you off this is the exact opposite of what we are trying to do. We are just telling people where all the information is, So you can ingest it in you own time to help you make an informed decision.

We like to think we are not over priced, at £39.99+vat an hour we are cheaper than most normal garages.

I have 99 Type R and just had rebuild through Scooby Clinic and couldn't be happier. New too Impreza's and Adam couldn't have been more helpful but they can get busy and be hard to contact, surely that's a good thing and shows there doing a good job.

I was recommended API or Scooby clinic through scoobynet and chose Scooby Clinic because they offered a cheaper recovery in the end as car had to be recovered from York and felt they could do anything that was needed to the rest of the car. But both said between 2500-3000 and it ended up a fair bit MORE than that but the car had stood for just over year outside and needed more than engine. I'd speak to Adam and see what he can do for you.

I havent got a bad word to say about the clinic. They're top fellas, if you want to go cheap, expect things to go wrong. You want to pay the going rate but know that your car gets sorted by Pro's, then its clinic all the way.

They are busy, coz they're good, once they start dealing with you, you will get 100% attention to detail. I must have sent a million emails to Kev and he always responded within 24hours, sometimes within a couple of minutes.

My hat goes off to the clinic.

btw, tell Kev I nearly gave a RAC man a heart attack when I went around a roundabout and changed up into 3rd, flames spitting and loud pops. Laffed my *** off.

Merry Xmas Kev/Adam/James/Pat and the test-pilot who I dont know his name but have a happy new year and a fantastic 2011. I'll be back for a gearbox upgrade sometime mid-late 2011 and an SC46....

I've just this afternoon fetched my Skyline back from a service at Scoobyclinic (it has been there for two weeks due to the sodding snow). When I got there Kev was on the phone talking to a customer for about 20 minutes about turbos and engine mods and other engine stuff whilst one of the mechanics got my car out of the workshop. They are always very busy but you can generally grab Kev or one of the guys if you need to discuss any issue. I've used them for over 5 years now and whenever I've had a problem with my car they've usually pinpointed it straight away.

This is a cracking post. I have the same relationship with David and the chaps at APi. 100% professional and great communication.

I suppose a lot of the problem is with phoning up and asking questions when you haven't spent a bean is that these companies have a lot of timewaster/dreamers calling up with plans to build a 500+bhp cars when they haven't a pot to **** in.
