Question

Hello peeps

I am in the market for a second car for the darling wife

Just looked at a scruffy Fiesta 1.3 LXi 5-door 1993 on the K

106,000 miles and tired

My question is, there seems to be a build up of sludge on the inside of the rocker cover - thick tar type black oil, not too mayonnasie as you sometimes find

Is it anything to worry about?? the car started first time, idled well, ran well, also - how much is it worth?

I know its not a scoobie, but any advice will be greatly appreciated.

James

Seems to be the norm with ford ohc engines. The sludge is what happens to them all.
If you change the engine oil and filter, make sure you use an engine flush (this will clean some of it), then you'd need to take off the breather hoses and clean them out as well because they tend to get bunged up.
This will help short term, but it will re-appear in the not too distant future, just repeat the procedure but don't worry about it as it is "normal" on these engines.

Is the 1.3injection of 1993 vintage an OHC engine??

Does the engine sludge up in those too??

Pete

Seems to be the norm with OHC and OHV engines on fords. The later CVH engines used to start smokind at start-up but this would be cured by replacing the valve stem oil seals.
