Default Widest Tyres?

What's the widest tyres you can fit on the following, safely, with no real ill-effects on a MY03 STI:

17x7

18x7.5

Cheers

The stock MY03 STI comes with 225 section tyres on 7.5" rims.

7.5 rim is o.k. from 215 to 235 if you want to try...

P.S. A wider tyre is better suited to a wider rim, 235 on an eight inch rim on mine...

17x7 = 225 max. I used to run that and am doing now on my winter tyres.

What's the reason for the limits? Just so the side walls don't have loads of rubber hanging over them?

Too wide a tyre and the sidewalls are tucked in...

Too narrow and they are stretched, and mine wore abnormally too !

In my experience. I killed a set of 215's on my 8" rims in less than a year (6000 miles)

HTH

But I have another two sets of alloys to use as well (3 in total). So was wanting the 18's for show, and the 17's for go (on track).

Ideally I would like wider wheels, but I got both sets at a good price so couldn't turn them down. May sell the 17's though and get wider ones.
