I have a 1999 T Impreza Turbo Wagon. Basically all standard.

Fitted with 205/50/ R16 Toyo Tyres which i understand is standard tyre and wheel size.

There seem to be a limited range of tyres available in this size.

Are there any advantages or indeed disadvantages to trying a different size tyre to increase choice of whats available.

Although i will be sticking to the 16 inch wheels.

The main issue with changing tyre size is speedo calibration, the bigger the tyre the the faster your car will be going when you think you're going 60, for instance...traveling at 60, you'll be doing say 65. Small the tyre, you'll say be doing 60, but be doing 55.

As for ride difference, the bigger the profile the more comfortable the ride, the small the more bumpier the ride.

As above regarding rolling radius of tyres,plus slightly better acceleration with smaller rolling radius,or slightly more top end with larger.
Regarding the width,ive managed to squeeze some 225 888's on standard wheels but dont go no wider.
Advantages are more grip and better looks.
Disadvantages are more straight line road drag,more expensive tyres,possible arch rub depending on how low your car sits on its suspension.
