After narrowly avoiding having to replace the solid metal brake lines in the engine bay of my classic that runs from the abs pump to each brake, (due to the nuts being damaged)

I have now just snapped the drivers side rear brake line in half!!!

I took the caliper and disc off to then disconnect the flexible brake line from the solid metal piping inside the wheel arch as im replacing both the brakes and the hose lines for braided ones.

It was at this point when i got my brake line spanner on it that it just snapped off due to corrosion.... Any ideas what to do now??

Cut and re-flare the brake pipe with a new nut fitted over the pipe first??

 

I take it the solid copper pipe has broken.

Then, yes cutting it back and re-flaring it will hopefully get you by, but i'd seriouslly look at replacing the section of pipe, and any other dodgy looking parts.

 

Yes mate the copper pipe is the part that snapped.
Can you buy the section of the copper piping then to go straight from the abs pump to the rear wheel arches where they connect to the flexible brake line, or do the have to be made up from scratch to fit the car?

 

Alright mate i just cut myn back and put an inline joiner in there,you just need to clean back the coating on the pipe and get an inline flaring kit

 

On a non ABS equipped gC8 there is already a joint in the lines.
It is below the rear bench seat ,underside of the car, on the drivers (UK) side.
The lines coming from the MC inside the car go outside at the rear bench, and there is a joint right there where the lines go through the floorpan.

Maybe your car has that joint as well??

This would save you running new lines along the complete car, you can just swap out the last 50cm.And seeing the amount of corrosion you have ,I would swap out the other side as well.

 

Thanks mate thats very usefull information, do you know then if i can buy just that section of pipe already made or would i have to buy and bend, fabricate it from The pipe and fittings myself?

 

Cheers, that sounds like the easiest way out mate but where can i get an inline joiner from? Ian Godney said he would make me something up and send it out (what a star) but is away at the jersey rally at the moment.
