Default 18s on a classic

i know people say it ruins the ride but ive decided i want some white inovit stvis, i wanted 17s but ive not been able to find any.

a local wheel shop has offered me some new 18s with 215/35s for what seems a fairly decent price but will it leave the car sitting too high if i dont lower it? i didnt want to start changing suspension parts really.

does anyone have a picture of a classic on 18s with standard suspension and maybe after lowering?

thanks for any help.

You'll be soooooooooooooooory. That's if you drive it, rather than just look at it

Agree with Alcazar, 17's are the biggest I would put on a classic.

Is it really that bad? I love the stvis but can't find any 17s and I really don't want to pay a fortune for the same style of wheels.

Will it sit too high on 18s without lowering as well?

They sit high with 17s when not lowered!!!!

A few mates have had 18s on there classics and have had no problems at all. Said it feels the same as they did with 17s. If you want to go for them then go for them. Its your car, if you dont like them after a few months, sell them on here or swap them for some 17s, If you dont try them, you'll always wondered what it would have looked like on the 18s.

ive had 17's and 18's on my old RA.... drove track days and drive my cars hard... didnt notice any difference apart from the drag strip where it was 0.2 of a second slower

With the P1 you could upgrade to 18's

Thanks for the input everybody, I am still concerned it will feel harsh but as was mentioned above I can always sell them if I really don't like them, they come with 5x100 and 5x114 so I could always sell them to someone with a newage car.

Without spending loads on suspension am I best going for lowering springs only or springs & dampers? I'm sure I won't need coilovers as it's not going anywhere near a track.

Mine came with 16's. It now rides on 17's. It DOESN'T ride any higher, or lower than it did.

However I did ensure that the rolling radius was exactly the same by using lower profile tyres.

thanks again for everyones input and opinions but i decided to give them a try and up to yet they dont seem too bad. it could do with lowering a bit but i think the car looks so much better than it did on black wheels.

before

after

i know the back lights are hideous and dont need reminding thanks! they will be gone as soon as i find a decent set of stis close enough to collect.

Ive got 18's on mine and never had a problem with them but I do have 40 profile tyres, I had 16's originally and it just didnt look right the 18's fill the arches a lot better.

Yes, and yes and FFS.

This last, well, you may as well lower it, you've wrecked the ride, go for knackering the handling next

im going to get my old wheels powder coated and put a new set of tyres on them to keep for spares so if the ride has been wrecked theres only 20 nuts holding the wheels on, its not exactly permanent

A bit harsh! I've got 18s on mine and a shed load if whiteline gear and it handles like it's on rails!

I am sure somebody mentioned p1 had 18s as well.

Prodrive, (you know? The people who prepared the rally cars?), stated that 17" wheels was the best for ride on a classic.

My comment on handling is aimed at LOWERING. So to do alters the position of the roll centre making the car MORE prone to body roll. Which CAN'T be good for handling or grip, can it?

Look it up if you doubt it
