Hi guys i've just got my 1st subaru and i have no idea if this is a common problem or not.

I've got a 1993 legacy estate 2 litre turbo, and select 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th with no problems at all, there is no whining from the gearbox i just can't select 5th or reverse. I'm praying it's a fault with the linkage and not the gearbox itself.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? If so how did you rectify it?
