Just purchased a 53 plate scooby wrx sti type uk

Car has 1 owner from new with 55k and full history, fella was in his 40's and has looked after the call fanatically.

It has a scorpion stainless exhaust and a walbro 255 fuel pump, bailey dump valve and a viper induction kit

Was thinkin of maybe a remap Just after any advice as to where to have this done and what price it would be and what sort of power it would be

any help is welcome lol

I would guess at around 300 -310 bhp with cats in place but I am sure somebody more knowledgeable will be along soon. You will probably be advised by the experts to remove dump valve and induction kit and put back to standard but I guess this is down to personal preference.

I think you are probably in the heart of Jolly Green Monster territory for mobile mapping, he gets terrific reviews from people on here, I used Bob Rawle and am also very happy with the results but he may be a little far for you to travel?

Hi smiley7.I have an 05 STi Type UK with a Pipercross Viper induction kit,HKS BOV and Ninja 100 cell sports cat.Mapped at Scoobyworld to 315bhp running on 97ron Total Excellium.Could have got more on Shell etc but it drives well and i'm very happy comparing the car as it was totally standard when i got it.

 

Welcome to scooby ownership smiley. I would advise that you get your car mapped quickly if not done already, as those mods need mapping in to be fully effective, and you run the risk of your car running lean etc with an induction kit being fitted and not mapped in properly.

Is the exhaust a full decat or just cat back? If just cat back then worth getting either a sports cat or decat downpipe before you splash out on a remap, you could see 310 maybe up to 330 with the decat downpipe.

 

I think its just a cat back!!

 

Induction kit = ewwwww (bin it, go back to the standard and better air intake with a good panel filter).
DV = annoying, also not as good as the original item
If you go for a full exhaust with sports cat (go for the prodrive sports cat, its your cheapest option and they float around ebay and on here occasionally) and get the car mapped, your looking at 340+bhp.

Not got the standard air box!! are induction kits reaaly that bad?

 

All your doing is taking hot air from the engine with an induction kit and putting it back into the engine, you need cold air for more power, not hot
Have a look to see if anyone is breaking a new age STI and get the box and tract off them

standard airbox is good for up to 350 bhp

 

depends on the ind kit, wing mount cold air feeds are better than standard. engine bay mounted ones arn;t brill on new age.

dump valves, as long as the car's set up for it and it sthe right one for the cr makes no difference either way good or bad

 

Its a viper induction kit which goes to the inner wing, so i thought that would be ok??

 

Have also found out that the cat which is under the car has been removed so i presume i just need to change the up pipe one now??

 

It won't have a cat in the up-pipe being the STi model, it may have a cat in the downpipe still but I would think this would usually be removed or replaced with a sports cat if the cat under the car has been removed. Hope this helps.

 

Now i am confused, how many bloody cats has the car got lol UP PIPE/DOWN PIPE????

There is no cat in the middle section of the exhaust as it has been removed, i believe the cat i need to remove which is needed for the MOT is the up pipe one??

This is where you need an expert so somebody will probably need to correct me!!

I believe that your STi will have originally had two cats (downpipe and middle section)

My bugeye WRX on the other hand had three cats (up-pipe, downpipe and middle section).

I think the cat you are referring to is probably the downpipe cat, this is often replaced by a sports cat (for the MOT) and I believe was an option on prodrive WRX/STi models.

Please wait for somebody more knowledgeable to come along first though don't just take my word for it!!!

The car has a straight through pipe apart from this pipe!!

 

That is a decat up-pipe as you originally suggested you need, perhaps I am mistaken but I believe that if your car is a 53 plate STi your standard up-pipe will not have a catalytic converter fitted and therefore you do not need to decat.

I am 95% but I'm sure somebody else can confirm.

 

Hmmm lol, i only just bought the car so i am only gussing this is what i need as the previous owner has advised me. He said car has no cat underneath as it was removed when the scorpion exhaust was fitted.

Then he said all it needed was this pipe fitted then the car would be ready for a remap!!
as it has all the other bits fitted, uprated pump and induction kit etc!!

 

It's capable of a ****load more than that on a Newage!

 

Whatever you do don't buy one until somebody else confirms either way. Presumably the car is worth around 9 or 10 grand, a cheap up-pipe would be a false economy especially the type shown in that ebay advert.

I really don't think you need one though unless it is a WRX?

In response to your initial question an Ecutek remap will probably be around £650 including the VAT.

 

2003 STI has 2 cats as standard, one in the downpipe, one in the next pipe along (cat pipe)

No point changing out uppipe (has no cat in it on the STI) unless it's rotten/leaking/fractured or you're going for headers

As far as EcuTek goes, we (and most others) charge £550 plus vat or £400 plus vat if you already have an EcuTek licence on the ECU (I.e it's been mapped before).

You have a decat uppipe as standard, if your cat pipe is decatted its just the downpipe that needs doing now, either full decat or run a sports cat, I have a prodrive cat, car has made 340bhp and passes MOT easily

this is for a wrx, the sti has cats in the downpipe and cat pipe as standard, whereas the wrx has an extra cat in the uppipe
