Default Cost effective modifications for 2005 WRX

I have read numerous threads on this site about how to improve the handling of the Impreza, some suggesting thicker anti-roll bars, uprated bushes, new shocks, lowering springs, coilovers etc, etc..

What I am trying to find out is what is the most cost effective solution for a road car, typically used on roads in Wales. I don't mind spending where it's needed, but don't want to throw my money away buying unnecessary stuff.

Any suggestions (which you've actually used yourself) for a fast road set up for a 2005 2 litre WRX please. Ideally I'd like to reduce the amount of body roll and get a bit more steering feel.

At least uprate the rear arb to 24mm from whiteline and better drop links, anti lift kit from same company is good. You could go for a 22mm front arb but some considef this unnessasary.
Uprated springs or coilovers if you can stretch to them. BC are a good budget coilover.
Get an geo check done!

I though coilovers would be too harsh for road use, although I've never been an Impreza with them fitted.

Coilovers are fine is you go for a soft spring.

As above, i'd recommend an uprated anti-roll bar

One of the best mods is replacing all the bushes with polyurathene bushes as they don't degrade like the OE rubber items. As your car is 5 years old the rubber bushes will have some play so once the geometry is set any play in the bushes will put it out as is it comes off the ramp. do the bushes first get a geo done and then see if you need to change anything as you will be suprised once things are tightened up.

Anti rolls bars and links, anti lift kit, eibach/prodrive springs in that order. All of course with a good geo setup - replace any worn bushes as well.

Solid drop links were the best VFM modification I made on my car in any department and I have spent £0000s - and yes the number of 0s is correct.

I bought the KYB AGX with P1 Eibachs and had these fitted with a 22mm rear ARB and solid drop links. Awesome difference to the car.

I am in the process of doing a complete rebushing of the rest of the transmission bits. Thor Racing sell complete kits by SuperPro for the underside, wishbones, trailing arms, gearbox etc etc. Not cheap but worth it.

Whiteline do the anti-tramp poly washers for the diff carrier as well. I got a second hand rear subframe and diff carrier of the bay, total cost £40, these have been cleaned up, painted and re-bushed and will go on at the same time. All in less fitting £900.

Can't wait to get it done now
