Default overheating legacy

Hello everyone, i am a virgin at this so here goes. I accuired a suburu legacy W reg with overheating problems, so much that the top radiator hose exploded. I have done a lot of reading on the internet and am thinking that its going to be an engine out job and new headgaskets. is there an easier way out of this problem apart from burning it

if it's an old 2.5 then it was a very common problem but you can do them incitu but it's a pain in the rear!
