Default changing the gear oil (MY02 sti) 2 washers needed?

after popping to my local subaru garage for gearbox sump washer im told it has two.
i was informed that the mechanics there just drain the sump pan one.

fair enough sounds feasible to me.

after picking up the washer (£5+!!!!!) he mistakenly ordered me a sump plug as well.

i noticed this was not magnetic...so i questioned it and was told it correct.

i had assumed that the lower pan sump plug would be the magnetic one.

what concerns me the most it that a subaru mechanics are not removing/inspecting the mag plug?.....not good!

so can someone confirm please that i need 2 washers for my gearbox and should be removing both plugs.

thanks

I usually replace both crush washers if I remove them, just as a good measure. Removing both plugs will make sure you get all of the old fluid out, as well as any sediment/material that has settled to the bottom

i wonder why the 6 speed has 2?.
i see your in the states.
ive read on a few US impreza forums that alot of guys use a cocktail of gear oils?.redilne shockproof and motul being a fave.
i find this interesting as its unheared of here but from what i gather very effective for smoothing syncros.

Yeah I always jsut run the subaru Go-Extra S

never been a fan of the "cocktail" mixes they forum guys run

The oil pan is the sump for the 6 speed's oil pump, the front drainplug is for the sump that allows for splash oiling of the front diff and gears
