Default gear oil

Hello, just need some advice on which gearbox oil to use as i'm replacing my clutch. The gearbox is starting to whine in 2nd and 3rd and can sometimes crunch into 1st and 5th but this maybe down to the clutch as it was shot. Is there a suitable oil that could help the problems a bit and i know that its not a fix. Ive read that redline shockproof oils can help but some say they are not suited to syncromesh boxes? Is there a good alternative?
The car is a 98 v4 sti type r with dccd
Cheers,
James.
