Howdee,
Changing discs and pads on my sti.
One side fine, slight thread pick up on one front brembo bolt..
Then the other side....
Rear shoes stuck in hub... Can you slacken off somehow?? I have thrashed it with a rubber mallet...
And... Front brembo caliper bolt picked up.. Think it must be dirt on bolt end.. Thrashed it and got a couple of turns out.. Nasty squeaky grounchy noise.
Soaked in wd and screwed back in.
Should i thrash it out...?
Cut the bolt and screw it through the other way?
.... Anyone had this problem/ fixed it??

Mind how you go. I am sure the calipers are made of Magnesium.
I had a problem with my two fronts when changing discs. Some tit had done them up with an air gun and had cross threaded them. Took a while to get the bolts out but they came out in the end.
I had to get the calipers re-threaded but wasn't easy as (I am sure the material is Magnesium) calipers were warming up due to the tapping of the steel bolt etc.
I'm pretty sure at the time pads out and the disc removed and other than the disc sheild (can't recall the real name at the mo) in the way had better access and just kept doing it until it came loose.
Think you may need a bar on it. Think the head size is a 19mm.

I had exactly the same problem with a front caliper bolt. I murdered it out with copious WD40 but to no avail as it destroyed the thread in the caliper which was subsequently repaired OK with a helicoil. I'm afraid you're going to have to do the same.
Examining the bolt there was a metallic blob on the end of the thread that must have been a defective bolt from day one. This would have been murdered in with a machine in the factory. Also this is not an uncommon problem if you do a search on this forum.

The caliper I now stripped of one lot of threads.

On problematic bolts it seems to be tight on the hub mounting hole... Just wondering if it pushing off the bracket and destroying threads that way when butchered in...
Still couldn't have done anything about it...

Bolts seizing in the caliper seems a common occurance with Brembo!
I actually sheared a bolt removing a rear caliper. I had to drill out the remains which fortunately, left the thread in the caliper slightly trunkated but still useable.
