Anyone out there know any hard facts about this area ?



A little bit of background info,

My brother started a job a few months back for a taxi company, that pickup and drop off school kids from school and home. The hours can vary from 1 to 15 a week.

He gets paid £6 an hour, he has never had a pay slip or tax, N.I. taken off him. The employer has 7 drivers doing all the same thing and my brother says all the other drivers dont get a play slip either.

Is my brother going to get himself into hot water, is the employer being under handed ?

 

Firstly I assume he's completely security checked and cleared reicking up kids.

As far as I know all taxi drivers are paid in a similar form (i.e. all the ones I know are self employed)

 

I think most taxi drivers are self employed to be honest....

 

I've done mini-cabbing.

When I was working, it was done as follows:

EITHER the driver elected to have a small wage and 25% of every run, and he then got a pay slip, had NI deducted and paid tax PAYE,
OR he just got 33% of every run and paid his own stamp and tax............or was supposed to

Most of the casual drivers, ie: those like me that just did nights and weekends, did the latter.
The full-time drivers were on the former since illness on the latter made for zero pay

 

Sorry, I don't know what the current rate for hand-jobs is.

I think I should of chose my words more careful.

 

What he is doing i done for 14 years.

As he is doing less than 16 hrs and not earning over such an amount, The amount i dont know for this year the company wont have to pay tax for him but they will pay his n.i contributions.At the end of the year he will get his slip of tax office to say what he earned.

He is earning aroung £3'500 which is free from being taxed.

 

Isn't he supposed to have some kind of licence to do cab work - for example getting his car properly tested?

My neighbour did private taxi stuff (full time) but he got the third degree on getting his vehicle approved, much more than MOT stuff. Plus a health once over.

Ignoring the licensing issues.

Providing your brother doesn't get any sort of benefits or have another job, then they can pay him up to about £105/week cash in hand usually with a hand written payslip.

 

With the title and the opening line I thought you were talking about something rude lol

 

Will he get a reduced pension if he does not pay his NI ticket?
