Default PPG box stuck in gear help

Hi everyone,

We have a problem! PPG gearbox is stuck in third, we thought it was due to the linkage as it recently popped out of the plastic socket when the circlip went missing, so today the car got stuck in 3rd and after this changed the gearstick and linkage, but its still stuck in third!

What could be causing this?

I removed the gearstick and tried pulling on the linkage by hand, i have no idea if this is possible but i still couldn't get it out of 3rd no matter which direction i pulled (obviously limited angles by the surrounding parts etc)

so does anyone have any ideas?

Dave

Selector fork snapped ?

Shaft jammed ?

These babies need such thorough assembly it's frighteningly easy to get wrong.

I know a lad with a different set-up, who selected 1st & 3rd recently....

Cheers for the reply,

just before it jammed it was getting stiff when changing gear at higher revs, does that give any more clues?

Do you know if i should be able to pull it out of gear using the linkage not connected to the gearstick?

I'd only be guessing TBH, If the lever is jammed then it is most likely due to something failing. The selector fork may (?) be welded to the hub ? ? ?

Sorry !

just had same issue with my 98 uk turbo stuck in 3rd with a wobbly gearlever (not ppg though) turned out to be the selector rail / rod for 3rd and 4th gear that broke the back lug off which stops you getting out of 3rd (the main selector just wobbles about in no mans land) , dave at api sorted me one out i fitted it and now its fine . not sure on how relevant this is to you though as it sounded like you were having trouble for a while before whereas mine went with no warning hope this is post may help

Sounds like you have snapped/bent the end of the 3/4 selector rod, box needs to come apart for it to be fixed.
