A.B.S. pump going nuts..please help!

A.B.S. pump going nuts..please help!
hi all,, last night my wife came home saying ,"the car sounds like a cassette player and a.b.s light is on..." so i goes and has a listen and its the a.b.s. pump making the noise and it was boiling hot, i disconnected the muti-plug, and took out the fuse.. the car still breaks fine..but obviously no a.b.s... the subaru we own is a 96 import wrx and the pump is 4 way abs... could it be the a.b.s.unit is knackered or a short in wiring somewhere,, i not sure, as its our first subaru and its been great so far,, so it could be common fault on them i dont know,, but i aint seen that happen b4,, any suggestions?
