Default 02 sti front knock

iv had a knock at front of car that i thought was suspension trouble but dont think that it is now.it happens when i put on drive(when i put gas on) and when i come off drive (when i come off the gas pedal)and i want to know is there a stabalising bar that may be worn from gearbox or engine mount maybe ? or is it possible there could be a fault with the driveshaft ? just any information or maybe a common fault or fault that someone has had before.i am gonna try and get a descent garage to look at it in a few weeks( as i work 6 days a week )but want an idea of any possible causes please,
it happens when fast or slow, and its not when i go over bumps it happens when on and off drive.i know its a job for a subaru specialist and im most likely not going to get the diagnosis on here but any ideas would be a start,i also want to learn so win win hopefully.

Hi, sounds like it could be a gearbox/engine mount. Check these first, it could even be a Prop UJ (universal joint). These are on the end of the propshaft and can cause knocking when accelerating and decellerating. Cheers

Yes mate, once he's got it up on a ramp they are very quick and easy to check. That's what I recon your problem is. The other thing you could try is open the bonnet and start the car, put the handbrake on and put it in reverse, gently rock the car with the clutch and get someone to listen to where the noise is coming from. You should see which mount it is then if it's one at the front.
