Default Hi everyone - noob alert!

Hello all,

Just introducing myself, I've been a VAG enthusiast (puts on flame retardent clothing!) for ten years owning a collection of mkii, three mkiii's (Including a VR6 hi line) and numerous mkivs including a Bora, a V6 4MO, three 1.8T GTI's and my current ride (which I'm selling) a VW 1.8T Golf GTI with uprated KO4 turbo and custom remap, Brembos, Koni Sport Coilovers, Milltek etc, etc.

So its time.Time to move on to A Subaru Imprezza finally -I'm looking around and I just wondered if there's anything I should be definitely looking out for with my new purchase, I'm looking at 98-00 model Imprezza's and am pretty open-minded but would like to know what to watch out for as with VW's there is a LOT of bad points to be wary of. I've been lucky and mine has been a dream but a lot of folk have ended up with bags of nails on the VW forums.

Anyway, All the best

Rep.

welcome mate

not owned a classic so won't attempt to help on that part. What i would do is post this up in scoobynet general as you'll get a lot more help and info in there, they can be unfriendy buggers in here sometimes

hi mate and welcome...
all i can say is buy with your head, not your heart and test drive as many as possible.

also if you find something you like, bounce it off a few bods on here, you never know, it might have been a club car.

take your time and good luck

Like people have said, be sensible. A car can look great, which can sometimes send your heart racing, but when you drive it it's sometimes a different story.

Take your time, and don't expect to find the one for you anytime soon. From when I first started looking to when I actually owned the car, it took the best part of 6 months.

I knew like you I was after a classic, mostly down to the insurance and the tax etc being slightly cheaper.

Give it another year or so and I will defiantly be upgrading to a 'newer' model and hopefully an sti.

Good luck, and try general section, will have better luck in there.

Another tip!

When and if you take a car out for a test drive - Make sure to test the clutch properly (along with all the other things you would normally check)

STEP 1: Find a stretch of open road, or a long street with no traffic.
STEP 2: Bring the Scoob up to about 25 mph
STEP 3: Shift into 4th gear.
STEP 4: Hit the Juice HARD as if you were a chav driving to a Burberry Giveaway.
STEP 5: Check it out - Listen! If the engine starts to rev free, as if it were in neutral, The clutch is slipping.

If it needs a new clutch - that's gonna set you back at least 5 to 7 hundred beer tokens. Unless you have friends in the motor trade.

Welcome to ScoobyMadness - Never look Back.
